Dicta Definition |
|
dicta definition – statement of opinion or
belief made by a court that is authoritative, though not binding
on lower courts. Generally, a court will rule on one issue, but
give an opinion on a similar issue that is not essential to the
case. That opinion, which can be used to advise lower courts, is
called dicta. |
