You can receive your credit report from one of three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Trans Union, and Experian. In many circumstances, you can obtain a report for free, for instance, if you have been denied credit within the last 60 days, if you receive public assistance, if you plan on applying for a job, if you believe there is inaccurate information on your credit report, or if you are from certain states, you are entitled to one free credit report per year (those are Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Vermont). If you don’t qualify for a free credit report, you can still obtain one usually for around $9.
